These candlesticks are made of clear cast glass that has been coasted with silver on the inside. Known in the 19th century as "farmer's silver" or "poor man's silver" because they imitated more costly sterling silver or plated silver originals. Whale Riding Print
Ralph Cahoon (1910-1982), the American primitive artist, lived and worked on Cape Cod here in Massachusetts when he painted this fanciful scene of a sailor and a mermaid riding a whale.
