No. 393 SHERATON SIDE TABLE

Small square tables were known originally as "work tables" because they were used primarily by women for writing, drawing, and sewing in parlors and bedrooms. The exceptional proportions and skillfully turned legs date this table to 1810-1830, from rural New England or New York. Mortise-and-tenon construction, with dovetailed drawer. Hard maple with a drawer interior of pine. Shown in Red Mahogany Stain. Height is 28 1/2". Top measures 18" x 18".
