OXBONE DITTY BOX
Ditty boxes, like this scrimshaw example, were created and used by sailors on American whaling vessels in the mid-19th century to hold thread, needles, and other necessities. Like the originals from which this is adapted, ours is entirely hand made. Made from polished ox bone, which resembles ivory. Hinged lid. Oxbone Ditty Box measures 8" wide x 4 1/4" deep x 3 1/4" high. Imported.
